Busy with Blogs
There hasn’t been much on my site lately, as I have been busy (a) in training all week, (b) catching up on work (c) working on content for another, old blog and (d) launching a new blog.
Resting Nite - Raptures Alight is a photographic tribute blog I started at 3am some morning a couple of weeks ago. Resting Nite is an anagram of Interesting.
Flickr, the photo site, has a whole section which it labels as having ‘interestingness‘, and I am always trolling over these pages… so I decided to put together a collection of interesting photos that I like and can record as I explore!
I settled on this anagram as I do indeed need a resting nite!
Some of my favourites to date have been:
- www: wet wide web
- Climbing the way to the top
- Bristle Brush (my own, but I really like this shot)
- Lit Up
I hope you enjoy this site as much as I do.
Some of the things that I hope to have on this site as it grows includes:
- Blog Carnival
(a weekly contribution from readers on photography - techniques, inspiration, and other posts related to the taking of photos) - Technical posts
(with some information that I have picked up or that other writers have contributed) - Appreciation posts
(posts that single out particular photographers and their works)
It will be a while, I guess, before it reaches any sort of critical mass, but I just felt compelled to put something together that spotlights what I consider to be great work on Flickr!

Hi Stephanie
Just had a thought. If you have time, I would appreciate it if you copied one of the pictures posted on the blog and cut it then post it on your blog, for me to see.
Thanks
YB

YesBut - I have to be brutally honest here and say that I was not up to the task for cropping your pics for two main reasons. (1) I am not that good… which is one of the reasons that I run a tribute site rather than a strictly how-to site, and (2) I would be interpreting what you intend from the photo, and I may not get it right. I did do some work on my photo, so I looked at that and threw together the post at The Art of Cropping. I hope this helps.

Hi Stephanie
Thanks for making the effort and posting the tips on cropping. I have made a note of them. Your photos illustrate the subject very well.
I think I’ll post something about the subject on tomorrow’s http://yesbut-thinkingaloud.blogspot.com/

YesBut - do not be disheartened, oh yea of little faith! You now need to open up your blog and invite comment. This is one of the things that I love about Flickr, in that some of the groups that you can join can actually help you with constructive criticism about photos. Our good friend David is also a mine of information as well. Do not be disheartened - you have an eye for interesting things to photograph, you now just need to look at different perspectives to photograph from, different techniques (such as utilising depth of field, and cropping).
I am not claiming to be a master at any of these, however I know what I like in a photo!

Hi Stephanie
I now have had time to read the new blog.
Firstly its not just reading one blog! There are so many useful links.
Some of the photos are absolutely stunning, My head is in a spin - should I take them as inspiration, or hit the delete but to send the photos I posted on http://mysharedimages.blogspot.com into oblivion.
Anybody want to buy a second hand Fuji F31fd?

No worries, but appreciate you visiting, YesBut. Themes do make it easier to post - which is why I have a backlog of posts already queued ready to go on that one. All comments welcome!
