Personal, Technical & Opinionated
I’m an African drumming fan, and I have found that you can download more tracks from Amazon. Here are some that I have found.
I am currently in the processing of moving files from Box.net to another location. Some djembe and dunun rhythms may be unavailable for a short time!
Sorry about that folks!
My arm hurts… my shoulders hurt. I was so eager to play it - “Oh, I remember that… it looked fun,” I said.
After Kelvin ramped up the practice pace I thought my arm was going to fall off. The djembe players had no problems - it was just the tone-slap warm up… the speed of the kinkine rhythm almost killed me.
Two days later I’m wearing pain patches on my shoulders.
Ouch!
Well we’ve been at it again - another concert and it was fun, even though we got rained out.
It was done in conjunction with a local music school at Queenstown - Fingerwerkz… so I decided that I would do a time-lapse video. The first part is the Fingerwerkz kids - really cute, and the second part is the drumming group. I added some music to make it all a bit interesting. I got inspired by a post on LifeHacker for the time-lapse video thing.
I took all the photos and threw them into Windows Movie Maker at 0.375 seconds per image. It turned a 1.5 hour event into a 4+ minute overview (over 800 images, however). I’m pleased with the results, and now I have an excuse to go and buy a 4 megapixel webcam for next time! (LOL - insert wicked laugh here and watch DH cringe!)

I’m moving the files… note the links below.
For all those wanting the recordings, here they are.
Lila Drums was written about in PiliPala Magazine (new Singapore magazine), and it featured a photo of Erik, Cheryl and I, as well as another photo of a group shot of students in the August issue!

Cool! Bring it with you next time we get together!
Recently LadyT commented on my post to Djembe Enthusiasts - she was curious about djembe playing in London, and seemed surprised when I said that it was quite popular in a number of places around the world, including the UK.
There are a number of resources available internationally for the djembe community, and most of them have some reference online, so I will attempt to post all my bookmarks and links here, by country, to give you an idea of what is available. There are a number of enthusiasts that do this better than me, and I will try and include them as well.

UK / London
There are information, short courses and workshops available for the djembe:
USA
Europe
I will update as I find more. If you have a drum circle you want a link to, please add it in the comments section and I will update this post.
OK - it got tricky on Friday… but here the solo is up to the syncopation:
More to come - I am splitting the files up now.

Ohh Stephanie,
Whenever you do this Kuku thing, I always feel like you are talking about me. Sounds similar. ![]()

Hey Cuckoo - totally understand. Unfortunately I can’t change the rhythm name… but we should be done with it by the end of the month… and to be frank - this Kuku rhythm is driving me cuckoo… something you don’t do!!!
Hey guys… ain’t it great to be back!!??
Anyway, I’ve started writing up what we did last night… and you guys started the week before. Very sorry I missed it.
Let me know if you have it written differently.

About MeI'm an Australian Lady (ozlady) who has many interests, which at some point I will probably refer to in this blog. I crashed my blog a couple of months ago, and have been organising and re-building it ever since. Hopefully this will be the final revision! More |
