BBW Photo Challenge – Day 17: Emotion

18 Apr

Today in the Blessed Beyond Words Photo Challenge, the word is ‘emotion.’

I found this an interesting day to have this word because it’s Palm Sunday, and a lot of the readings invoked emotions of sadness and awe.  Also I waved my husband off on a business trip. Again, more emotions.

After dropping dearest off at the airport, I was stuck in a traffic jam, and I felt another set of emotions – anger and frustration. Fortunately this was easier to photograph than the others, so here is my photo for today:

As usual, I have discovered a number of photos that have been taken that portray various emotions. Check out some of the ones below, and enjoy my Flickr Photo Gallery of Emotions. Some people have seriously great imaginations!!!

BBW 30-Day Photo Challenge – Day 1: Self Portrait

01 Apr

The first topic in the Blessed Beyond Words Photo Challenge Topic List is ‘Self Portrait’. I’ve been doing a few of these intermittently as part of a Flickr Group (although some days I’m just too shy for words). It amazes me the portraits that people come up with. Some of my favourites are below, and my own contribution is at the bottom.

Enjoy!!

Day 1: Self Portrait while wrestling Tiga the cat
I was taking a photo for the Blessed Beyond Words photo challenge, and Tiga kept jumping on and around me (as evidenced by the cat hair on my t-shirt).

I decided to include her in the photo! She fights you whenever you pick her up… it’s a bit of a game with her… so we are wrestling. She desperately wants me to put her down so she can jump back on me!

Here’s some weekend reading for your pleasure. This week I’m focusing on posts that show and explain how photos were taken. Hopefully some good material to read and then experiment with over the weekend!

Six Great Photos Following the Rule of Thirds

27 Jan

Rules are meant to be broken, but for budding photographers, the rule of thirds is one of the first “rules” that we learn, and can actually get results from when we put it in to practice. Having said that, there are loads of photos that are interesting and inspirational without following this rule.

If you are interested in reading more about the Rule of Thirds, the following are bookmarks that I have used over the years.

Now what sort of results can we expect? Follows are six great photos that either knowlingly or unknowlingly use this “rule”.

Post links to your “rule following” photos in the comments section and let us all be inspired!

The bumboats that carried us home from camp

This camp I pretty much stuck to using my new Nokia N86 8MP as a camera for candid shots, as the 8MPreally makes it quite a handy little camera… with no extra baggage.

Some photos would leave you thinking they were taken by a normal camera – like this pic on the way home.

I love the auto-stitch panoramas as well.

2009 Challenge – Day 47: Black & White Portrait

16 Feb

2009 Photo Challenge - Day 47: B&W PortraitThis was always going to be a stealth challenge for me – I am terrified of asking people if I can take their photos!

I snuck this one on the plane on the way to Singapore of a couple of passengers across from me.

I didn’t quite get the contrast that I wanted, but given that this was going to be a difficult challenge, I am OK with it.

If you click through on the image, you will see a bunch of comments that encourage me to just ask. I did today, and got a couple of photos of my colleagues. I haven’t had a decent look at them yet, however if they turn out OK, I might link them here.

I did find taking photos of even willing subjects quite difficult, however, so don’t hold your breath!
